I'm self-employed and I have more flexibility on some days than others depending on my schedule which is awesome and it's completely in line with the life that I have designed over the years for myself because it wasn't always like that (I used to have to be at an office by a certain time every day) but with that I was finding that having the flexibility that I love and value was actually causing MORE stress than an actual structured morning because I would put things off because "I could do them later" and then later would come and I would be stressed out with everything that I had to do or get done....I know right....what to do.... ssssoooo I created this guide as a way to provide some structure and accountability to my flexible schedule because that was what I was needing and craving even though I love my flexibility... I have used TONS of different planners, journals, etc over the years and I was finding that I was constantly adding sections or areas to make it more applicable to me so I finally created my own and after getting it printed at a local printer for a month and using it day in and day out I thought I would share with you! 🙂
** I go through this morning routine BEFORE I look at my social media, check emails, etc...This is my quiet time in the morning that I focus on myself FIRST so I can be a better person for everyone else in my life. Sometimes I do this after my morning workout if I workout first thing in the morning, which means I'm still back home from the gym pretty early so it's still at the beginning of my day.

I've also been known to do this in the car in the parking lot of the gym before I go in to do my workout or after my workout so I can do it in quiet and focus. While I don't have 2-legged kiddos I do have 4-legged ones that want to chase and bark at squirrels, etc in the morning and it can be distracting.
Moral of the story...when you need 15 minutes of quiet time, get creative. If you need to stay home, go to your car and sit in the garage or driveway, or go on the back porch and leave the dogs/kids inside (safe of course)...whatever you have to do to get some time for you to breathe and focus...It's great if you can get up, make some coffee and do this first thing with no distractions but if that's not possible in this season of your life, or if getting in action and getting to the gym first thing works better for you (that works better for me because if I'm planning to work out and instead start with coffee and a cozy chair and do my morning routine my workout sometimes gets derailed by the rest of the house getting up, etc so it works best for me to get up and out of the house around 6:15am if I'm doing a morning workout but whatever works for you.
Be creative and know you can change it if it doesn't work...treat it like an experiment so you don't stress about getting it perfect right out of the gates. 🙂

When I created this resource I knew I wanted to incorporate specific elements to get me in the right mindset first thing in the morning in addition to having a kick in the rear from an accountability standpoint and a document that could act as a dashboard for my day. Here are the areas that I included.
Affirmations
Affirmations are so important as far as your mindset goes. "I Am" statements are important to think, say and write and I often write things I am and aspire to be. This mind body connection is really powerful as you write what you want in your life and rewire your brain. Proverbs says "Life and death are in the power of the tongue" and what I take from this is that words have power and I want to speak and write life over myself and my life which isn't something that comes naturally so it's a goal of mine to be very mindful on a daily basis and these "I Am" affirmations help so much!
Thoughts/Brain Dump
I used this section and included some dots which are inspired by the bullet journal pages to allow me space to note, list, draw, etc whatever is cluttered up in my brain at the time. I've found that it is key for me to "brain dump" what is running through my head otherwise it creates a loop that I can't get out of mentally. Once I write it out and release the thoughts onto paper, I find it's like a mental cleanse and can get back to focusing on what's important versus what's just running around in my mind. If you are curious about bullet journaling I have a video on it you can check out here.
Must Do To-Do's Today
Soooo... I am notorious for making a super long to-do list and thinking I can get it all done in a day and then feeling like an overwhelmed failure if I don't. Guess what...most days there are only a handful of things that HAVE to get done and those are the things that get written in here. I talk about it in the video but I do "batch" or "group" similar items together so like if I need to run 3 errands that have to get done, I put all the errands on one line versus listing them all out separately. This has really helped me to focus on the most important tasks of the day and let go of the rest. Plus if things start to get cra cra in my day I can look at this quick dashboard and see what I need to focus on when my OCD starts to kick in and I think I need to reorganize the closet for the 9th time this month...and you think I'm joking...LOL
Gratitude List
This section of the guide is awesome because there is always so much to be grateful for and it really is an important part of any morning routine because gratitude is one if not THE highest forms of energy. When I write down all the things I am grateful for I am instantly in a better place mentally and my perspective on my life changes especially if I'm having a down day.
Schedule/Time Blocks
I talk about this in the video but whether you have a set schedule or one that's a bit more flexible, it has really helped me to outline my day and see where I have pockets of time that I can be intentional about to get my goals accomplished such as working out, relaxing, meditating, working on extra projects, etc. It also allows me to see if there's a day when these things don't just magically "fit in" and maybe I need to get up earlier to fit everything in. When I visually see my projected day I have a better sense of time and how I can use it to my advantage to get my goals accomplished.
Health/Wellness Journal
No matter where you are in your health/wellness journey whether you are looking to lose weight, eat healthier, take your vitamins, etc I think we can all agree that it is so important to be mindful of health on a daily basis. I find the days I plan my meals in advance I stick to my goals more. The days I weigh myself and think about my workout, I find I'm more intentional about getting that workout in. It's all about being purposeful and for me health and wellness are a daily focus for me because if you don't have your health it's really hard to enjoy your life.
The video will walk you through the free printable that you can download and give you some insight into how I approach my morning routine so that I'm in a state of gratitude, positive energy, and focus for my day! Hope it helps you rock your mornings!
