When I meet with sellers, a lot of them ask me if they need to repaint their themed rooms or accent walls before we list their home. It does depend on the paint color and content, and that’s one of the things we will discuss during the listing appointment.
Theme Rooms
To be honest, a lot of times I don't recommend painting over accent or themed walls because think about model homes, when you go into a model home, a lot of times they decorate theme rooms and they look great and they build emotion with potential buyers.
As long as it's done well and there's not chips in the paint from a condition standpoint or that kind of thing, I usually say it’s fine.
Accent Walls
As far as accent walls, I'm going to look at what color it is and where it is located in the home. If I walk in and your entryway is painted bright purple, maybe I'm going to recommend painting more of a neutral. But if your kitchen has a gorgeous merlot colored wall or something like that, I'm going to say keep it. Your home doesn't have to be all beige or all gray to sell.
Photography
We will want to make sure it photographs well in photos, and make sure it’s not too bright or too distracting, and we'll talk about that at the listing appointment and if you do need to repaint, I can give you some ideas when we meet.
